FOOD FOR THOUGHT opened
its doors for the last time in Covent Garden.
After more than forty years of service the time had come to call it a day. It has been a remarkable venture. That such an awkward, cramped and unconventional set-up could have survived so long is, in no little measure, due to the commitment of our staff and the loyalty of our customers.
In the early 1970s when the central fruit & vegetable market closed down, Covent Garden was gutted. Many will feel the same about our decision. For more than forty years Food for Thought has withstood the corporate march, refusing to be processed, packaged or pocketed. For as long as was viable we have remained resolutely independent, offering food that is unashamedly home-spun & hand-made and providing a place to work that is a celebration of the individual and the spontaneous.
We have loved being here
and hope you have too.
We are overwhelmed by the response we have received after media broke the news.
We thank you all for your kind comments and offers of support.
Who knows what the future holds. For now, it is a pause for thought
